Human and Animal Rights

Purpose

The Chinese Journal of Cancer Prevention & Treatment (CJCPT) is committed to ensuring that all research involving human participants and animals is conducted ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with internationally recognized standards. Authors are responsible for demonstrating that their studies comply with applicable ethical and legal requirements.

Research Involving Human Participants

Manuscripts reporting research involving human participants must clearly state that the study received approval from an appropriately constituted Institutional Review Board (IRB), Ethics Committee, or equivalent research ethics authority before the study commenced. The name of the approving institution and the approval or reference number should be provided within the manuscript where applicable.

Research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with internationally accepted ethical principles and applicable national regulations.

Informed Consent

Authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from all participants before their inclusion in the study. Where participants are minors or lack the legal capacity to provide consent, permission must be obtained from a parent, legal guardian, or other legally authorized representative.

When manuscripts include identifiable personal information, photographs, clinical images, or case details, authors must obtain explicit written consent for publication from the participant or the participant's legal representative.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Authors must protect the privacy and confidentiality of research participants. Identifying information should not be included unless essential for scientific purposes and supported by documented publication consent.

Research Involving Animals

Studies involving animals must be performed in accordance with institutional, national, and international guidelines governing the ethical care and use of laboratory or experimental animals. Authors must identify the committee responsible for approving the study and provide the relevant ethical approval information within the manuscript.

Researchers are expected to apply appropriate measures to minimize pain, distress, and unnecessary suffering and to use the minimum number of animals required to achieve scientifically valid results.

Ethical Documentation

The Editorial Office may request copies of ethics approval letters, informed consent documentation, or other supporting ethical records during the review process. Failure to provide satisfactory documentation may result in rejection of the manuscript.

Editorial Assessment

Editors may decline to consider manuscripts if ethical approval is absent, ethical concerns remain unresolved, or the research appears inconsistent with internationally accepted ethical principles. Where concerns arise after submission or publication, the journal may investigate the matter and take appropriate editorial action.

Compliance with International Standards

CJCPT expects all human and animal research to comply with the ethical recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and other applicable international and national research ethics standards. Authors remain responsible for ensuring that their research meets all relevant ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements before submission.

Policy Review

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect developments in international research ethics and scholarly publishing standards. Authors are encouraged to consult the latest version of the policy before submitting their manuscripts.
