Policy of Dealing with Allegations of Research Misconduct

Commitment to Research Integrity

The Chinese Journal of Cancer Prevention & Treatment (CJCPT) is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record by promoting responsible research and ethical publishing practices. The journal takes all allegations of research or publication misconduct seriously and investigates concerns in a fair, confidential, and impartial manner.

Author Responsibilities

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are expected to carefully review the journal's Author Guidelines, Editorial Policies, and Publication Ethics policies. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that their work is original, accurately reported, ethically conducted, and complies with all applicable journal requirements.

Types of Research Misconduct

The journal may investigate, but is not limited to, allegations involving:

  • Plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
  • Data fabrication or falsification.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Image manipulation or inappropriate alteration.
  • Authorship disputes or inappropriate authorship practices.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Ethical approval or informed consent violations.
  • Citation manipulation or other unethical publication practices.

Investigation Procedure

When a concern is raised, the Editorial Office will conduct a preliminary assessment and may request explanations or supporting documentation from the authors. Where necessary, the journal may seek advice from editorial board members, independent experts, or the authors' affiliated institutions before reaching a decision.

All investigations will be conducted confidentially, objectively, and without prejudice until sufficient evidence has been reviewed.

Editorial Actions

Depending on the nature and severity of the findings, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request clarification or additional documentation.
  • Require revision or correction of the manuscript.
  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction.
  • Notify the authors' institution, funding agency, or other relevant authorities when appropriate.

Ethical Guidance

The journal manages allegations of research and publication misconduct in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and follows the relevant COPE Flowcharts when investigating ethical concerns. Editorial decisions are also guided by the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) to ensure consistency, transparency, and fairness.

Confidentiality and Fair Process

All parties involved in an investigation will be treated fairly and respectfully. Information relating to misconduct investigations will remain confidential and will be disclosed only when necessary to resolve the matter or to fulfill ethical or legal obligations.

Policy Review

This policy is reviewed periodically to reflect updates in publication ethics, international editorial standards, and the recommendations of COPE and ICMJE.
